Meet the team

Dr James Critchley is an enormously experienced restorative dentist with over 24 years in practice. James works at Pittville Lawn and at other Portman practices around the UK, providing patients with all aspects of dental implantology, and cosmetic dentistry. James’ passion for dentistry started at an early age following his father who was one of the UK’s leading implant dentists. Such was James’ interest in dental implants that he started his post-graduate training before he had even completed his dental degree, spending time at the home of dental implants in Gothenberg Sweden. This was followed by time in America being mentored by some of the world's top cosmetic dentists. To date, James has completed 3,000 cases.

His post-graduate training is still focused on spending time directly with the world’s leading dentists in the fields of implant dentistry and cosmetic dentistry. This has meant James has built a particular reputation for his skill in restorative and cosmetic dentistry, including the all-on-four technique.

In 2005 James opened his own practice in Cheltenham, Pittville Lawn, before it became part of the Portman family in 2011.

When James is not at the practice, he spends his time with his family. His interests are anything outdoors from Rugby to skiing.

Mark Truman graduated from Cardiff University in 2008, gaining a first-class honours degree and two prestigious prizes in Oral Surgery and Restorative Dentistry. He then undertook vocational training where he selected a practice that had an oral Surgeon and restorative dental specialist as vocational trainers. It was here that he learned the value of high-quality dentistry and grew his desire to obtain further training.

During his early associate years. Mark developed an interest in Endodontics, subsequently being selected to undertake the first Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Endodontics in Wales. Mark thoroughly enjoyed the two-year course obtaining a Distinction.

Mark has been taking endodontic treatment referrals for over 10 years. including retreatments and surgical treatment of anterior teeth.

Mark has completed courses with CFast, 6 Month Smiles Advanced, Invisalign and Sparks and is a registered provider for these brands. In 2020 Mark undertook a Post Graduate Certificate in Orthodontics in London where he would go for a weekend once a month for clinical and practical work.

Mark has completed over 500 orthodontic cases to date and undertakes moderate complexity cases including extraction cases and children. He has a keen interest in early interceptive orthodontics for children with an aim to prevent malocclusions as they grow.

Using both clear aligners and fixed orthodontics, Mark has a great understanding of smile design and tooth movement. He is also more than happy to refer anything which he feels is beyond his capability or seek advice of several specialists he has close connections with over the years. He lectures the CFast cosmetic alignment course for dentists around the UK.

In 2024 Mark started a MSc in Orthodontics at Birmingham College of Medicine and Dentistry. As part of this he is learning the latest techniques and attends consultant lead clinics once a month treating more complex cases.

Outside of all this “dentistry stuff”, Mark is married and a dad of two teenagers. He lives on a small holding with horses, sheep, chickens and a dog. He is a fitness fanatic, having undertaken several Ironman distance triathlons, ultramarathons and 25 marathons over the last 10 years. In 2022 Mark cycled the length of Wales in a day – from Caernarfon to Neath (Castell Nedd), raising money for Latch, a children’s cancer charity. He loves a challenge!! Mark is also a junior triathlon coach, taking several lessons a week. Last year he completed the Berlin Marathon and has applied this year for Chicago and New York.

Gareth was born and raised in North Wales and undertook his Dental training in Manchester graduating in 2000. Since then he has worked in Wales, Surrey and Berkshire before settling to work in Hereford.

Gareth takes pride providing careful, gentle dentistry to a high standard.

Gareth also has a keen interest in dental technology, adhesive dentistry and Endodontics (Root Canal treatment).

When not looking after patients he can usually be found playing golf or socialising with friends.

Dr Mimi is a kind, friendly and caring dentist, devoted to her patients. She educates them on their individual needs and they appreciate her compassionate presence. Her goal is building long-term relationships and giving a pleasant, safe experience during the visit to the dental practice.

Being into restorative and cosmetic dentistry, Dr. Mimi is developing her knowledge and practice with the trends in the dental field.

Outside the practice, Dr Mimi values spending quality time with her family and friends in nature.

Ali completed his BDS from the University of Liverpool in 2016. Soon after he was also awarded the MFDS diploma from the prestigious Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh. He has had experience in delivering both private and NHS dentistry for a number of years before focusing in the field of dental implants. He has a keen interest in the field of cosmetic and implant dentistry which he further honed in on by successfully completing a Masters in Clinical Implantology (MSc Merit). Ali was also awarded the Diploma in Implant Dentistry from the Royal College Surgeons Edinburgh in 2023.

Megan is our Northern Irish Dentist. She moved to Wales at the age of 18 to pursue a career in Dentistry, graduating from Cardiff University with honours in 2018. She has since enjoyed a dental career in General Practice, providing high quality care and a friendly service for her patients. Previously Megan has worked in Belfast, South Wales and more recently in the Sunshine Coast, Australia. She now works full time in St. Martin’s Dental and Implant Clinic.

An enthusiastic Dentist, Megan has completed a number of courses since graduating. Although she enjoys all aspects of general dentistry, her interests lie in Aesthetics. She is currently undertaking training in Facial Aesthetics alongside a year long course Advanced Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry.

Megan has now settled in South Wales with her fiancé and Cocker Spaniel

Having lived in Herefordshire for over 25 years Karen now considers herself‘ almost’ a local. She loves looking after nervous dental patients as well as those whose general health issues may make their dental care more of a challenge. Karen speaks at dental conferences on teamwork and values driven dental care and supports other dentists who are struggling as well as working with us on Fridays.

In her spare time you may see her out with her team of Morris dancers on a summer’s evening or recognise her by her brightly coloured clothes as she jogs past you training for her latest fitness challenge.

Janice qualified from the University of Leeds with MChD/BChD in Dental Surgery, BSc in Oral Science in 2018. After she graduated, Janice completed a year of the Dental Foundation Training in Wales, and a year of Dental Core Training in Oral Maxillofacial Surgery in Preston after. Janice joined the primary care in 2020 in Hereford, she is committed to providing the best possible treatments available to patients. Janice enjoys general dentistry with a strong passion in the aesthetic field including both facial aesthetics and aesthetic dentistry. She believes the fulfilling aspect of her job as a dentist is combining the art and science of dentistry to help create and increase confidence and self-esteem in her patients.

Janice completed her first postgraduate certificate in Skin Ageing and Aesthetic Medicine at the University of Manchester in 2022. She is a certified provider of facial aesthetics including Botulinum toxin, dermal fillers and many other skin rejuvenation treatments. Janice has also widen her knowledge by completing various courses eg. Mini Smile Makeover, Cfast aligner, Clear Correct clear aligner, Invisalign aligners. She is currently pursuing a postgraduate certificate in restorative and aesthetic dentistry at Dominic Hassall Training Institute Birmingham. Janice is constantly striving to improve, has a calm chairside manner and is experienced to work with patients who are anxious about dental treatment. Outside of dentistry she enjoys spending time with her family, gaming and going holidays with friends.

Special interests: Restorative dentistry, Facial Rejuvenation Dr Keerthika Rajendran is a qualified health professional with a strong academic background, holding a Honours in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Sheffield and a Merit in Dental Surgery from the University of Leeds. Her commitment to excellence is evident through her membership of the prestigious Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow.

During her initial postgraduate years Dr Keerthika served as a Dental officer at a community clinic in Bedford and later as a Senior House Officer in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery at the Royal Derby Hospital. In 2019, she transitioned to the Special Care Dentistry department at Birmingham Community Healthcare Trust, where she honed her skills in managing extremely nervous and medically complex patients. She also delivered teaching on outreach clinics to undergraduate dental and hygiene and therapy students. Patients often compliment Dr Keerthika on her professional and caring approach to Dentistry.

Dr Keerthika's commitment to holistic patient care extends to her keen interest in facial rejuvenation, which is marked by the completion of several courses with the renowned Avanti Aesthetics Academy on Harley Street in London and SkinViva Training Academy in Manchester.

Beyond her professional pursuits in dentistry, Dr. Keerthika has a broad spectrum of interests that includes travelling, cooking and painting.

Adam graduated from the University of Bristol in 2020, and has spent the early years of his career working within various fully private practices. Adam has a patient-centred approach to dentistry, and a keen interest in using the latest digital technology to help patients achieve the best dental outcome. He enjoys all aspects of dentistry and is constantly keeping up to date with new techniques and approaches that he can use to help and treat his patients. He also is able to offer tooth alignment using the Invisalign system Outside of dentists, Adam enjoys a wide range of films, music, and books as well as supporting Sunderland AFC.
